Privacy Policy for Lyrics

Lyrics ("the app") is a lyrics-card collection and live setlist recorder for Android, developed by Nuko ("we", "our"). This page explains what data the app handles — and what it does not collect.

Short version

Everything you add — artists, albums, songs, lyrics, images, lives and setlists — is stored only on your device and is never sent to us (we do not run any server). The free version shows ads, so Google's ad SDK (AdMob) handles data such as the advertising ID (details below). The Pro version (one-time purchase) shows no ads.

What stays on your device

• Text recognition (OCR): reading text from a photo of a lyric booklet is done on your device with Google ML Kit. Images are never sent to a server (the recognition model is downloaded through Google Play services).
• Photos and images: photos are taken through your device's camera app; the app itself has no camera permission. Only images you take or pick are copied into the app's private storage.
• Music on your device: only if you allow it, the app searches the music files on your device (titles, artists, album artwork) to link and play them with a lyrics card. Music files and their details are never sent anywhere.
• Backups: backup files (ZIP) are written only to the location you choose. Automatic backups (Pro) are saved only to the folder you pick.

Features that use the internet

Only when you use the features below, the minimum information needed for the lookup is sent to public services. No personally identifying information is included.

• MusicBrainz (importing albums and track lists): the artist name you search for, etc.
• Wikidata / Wikimedia Commons (finding an artist photo): the artist's identifier. Only freely licensed photos are used, and their author and license are shown in the app.
• Web search: tapping "Search the web" opens your browser or search app. The app never fetches lyrics from lyrics sites by itself.

Advertising (free version)

The free version shows a small banner ad from Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use the advertising ID, device information and approximate location (inferred from the IP address) to serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud. Users in the EEA, the UK and similar regions are asked for consent through Google's User Messaging Platform, and can change it at any time from "Privacy options" in the app menu. In-app purchase

Purchasing Pro is handled entirely by Google Play. Payment details never reach us.

Permissions

• INTERNET: for the online features above, ads and the in-app purchase.
• READ_MEDIA_AUDIO (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and earlier): to find songs on your device and link them to lyrics cards. Without it, you can still pick a file through the system file picker.
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK: in Pro, to keep a song playing with the screen closed, controllable from the notification and lock screen.

What we do not collect

• Personal information such as your name or email
• The lyrics, images, lives, setlists or anything else you add
• Usage analytics or crash reports sent to us

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant age in your country) and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
