Compress ("the app") is an image compression app for Android, developed by Nuko ("we", "our"). This page explains what data the app does — and does not — collect.
Compress itself does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All image compression happens entirely on your device — your photos and files are never uploaded to any server. However, the free version shows ads served by Google AdMob, and Google may process your device's advertising ID and similar data when doing so (see "Advertising" below). The paid Pro version shows no ads.
Compress reads and writes files only when you explicitly ask it to, through Android's built-in image and folder pickers (the Storage Access Framework). Selected images are compressed entirely on your device and written to the destination you choose (your gallery or the original folder). The app does not scan, index, or access any files you have not directly chosen through those pickers, and it never uploads any image or file anywhere.
Compress requests the following permissions, for the purposes below:
POST_NOTIFICATIONS: used only to show compression progress (e.g. how many images are done) as a notification. Notifications are generated entirely on-device and never sent anywhere.FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROCESSING: used so compression can keep running when you switch away from the app. This permission is unrelated to sending any file anywhere.INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE / com.android.vending.BILLING: used by Google's Play Billing Library (to handle the Pro purchase) and the Google Mobile Ads SDK (to show ads in the free version). They are never used to send your images or files anywhere. The purchase itself is handled entirely by Google Play, and payment details never reach us.com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID / ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID: lets the Google Mobile Ads SDK read your device's advertising ID so it can serve ads in the free version. Once you buy Pro, no ads are shown.Compress itself (we) do not collect:
Standard Android system logs generated during a crash stay on your device and are only visible to you (or to us if you voluntarily choose to send them to us, e.g. by email, when reporting a bug).
The free version shows a small banner ad from Google AdMob at the bottom of the screen. To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and use your device's advertising ID, IP address, and information about your device and the app. This data is handled by Google; we do not receive or store it.
In the EEA, the UK and other regions where required, a consent form from Google's User Messaging Platform is shown on first launch so you can choose whether to allow ad-related data use. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalization at any time in your device settings (Settings > Google > Ads). Once you buy Pro, ads are no longer shown.
The only third-party services Compress integrates are Google's Play Billing Library (in-app purchase), Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob ads), and User Messaging Platform (ad consent) — all provided by Google. It includes no other analytics platform, ad network, or cloud storage service. For how Google handles information, see Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
